National joint-stock company Naftogaz Ukrainy and Germany's RWE Dea AG on Sept. 28 signed a memorandum of cooperation to study the territory of mutual interest on the Ukrainian Black Sea shelf and increase hydrocarbon extraction in Ukraine, Naftogaz's press service has reported.

The press service said that the document was signed during a visit of Naftogaz and Chornomornaftogaz’s delegation to Hamburg.

Chornomornaftogaz Board Chairman Valeriy Yasiuk said in June that Chornomornaftogaz (Simferopol, Crimea) and RWE energy concern are studying the submission of a joint bid to obtain a license for one of the fields on the Black Sea shelf.

Yasiuk said that a joint bid to obtain a license to explore and drill a field could be submitted no earlier than H1, 2012.

Chornomornaftogaz is developing the Ukrainian shelves of the Black and Azov seas.

The company extracts hydrocarbons in Crimea, exploits the Hlibovske underground gas storage facility in Crimea and operates the peninsula’s pipelines. National JSC Naftogaz Ukrainy owns a 100% stake in the company.
