The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Israel during tests have revealed salmonella enteritidis in eggs brought from Ukraine and decided to suspend imports of eggs.

“At once after receiving tests, the Ministry of Agriculture stopped imports of eggs from Ukraine, their marketing and sale at supermarket chains,” the ministry said.

According to the report, eggs on the way to Israel from Ukraine would not be allowed to enter the Israeli market.

The Ministry of Agriculture of Israel asked the Ukrainian veterinary agency to investigate into the issue and define the source of bacteria. The ministry is looking for alternative ways to supply eggs to the country.

According to the State Statistics Service, egg exports from Ukraine to Israel in January-October 2015 was 20.43 million eggs worth %2.24 million, while 876.43 million eggs worth $67.13 million were exported from Ukraine to other countries.

The key export markets for Ukrainian eggs were Iraq (418.75 million worth $34.9 million) and the United Arab Emirates (283.87 million worth $20.91 million).
