Some 70% of economy will pass into shadow by 2015 if the Verkhovna Rada adopts the draft Tax Code, Head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Industrial and Regulatory Policy and Entrepreneurship, BYuT MP Natalia Korolevska has claimed.

"If such code is adopted, the size of the shadow economy will reach 70% by 2015," she announced at a briefing in the Verkhovna Rada on Thursday.

According to her, the draft Tax Code envisages an increase of the powers of fiscal agencies, the introduction of extraordinary checks without a court ruling, and an extension of the list of reasons for checks.

According to Korolevska, leading the economy out of shadow cannot be carried out on the background of the strengthening of the state’s punitive functions.

"The Tax Code creates a taxation heaven for big companies and a taxation hell for small and middle-size businesses. It will neither bring additional income to the budget, or change the structure of the economy, or improve investment attractiveness," the deputy said.
