You're reading: Looking for a better apartment? These are Kyiv’s most expensive

For both the fortunate looking for a life of luxury in downtown Kyiv as well as those curious to have a peek at how the city’s richest inhabitants live, the Kyiv Post has compiled a list of capital’s five most expensive apartments for sale.

Prices are in the $9-$14 million range. They have at least five rooms each, with an average of 565 square meters, and are situated in new buildings that offer splendid views of Kyiv.

Three out of five of them, including the most expensive one, are located in a building on 9A Hrushevskoho Street, next to the Verkhovna Rada and Mariyinsky Park.

The other two are luxury penthouses also situated in prestigious neighborhoods.

Most of them are not finished or furnished.

After all, cash-rich owners usually have deep enough pockets to design the interiors to their fancy.

If interested, don’t rush into a purchase. These luxurious downtown hideaways have been on the market for years.

“To be honest we have not had an apartment sale exceeding $10 million [since the 2008-2009 global economic crisis],” said Halyna Melnykova, chief executive officer at Park Lane, a real estate agency that specializes in upscale properties.

According to Park Lane, the number of total real estate transactions accounted for by upscale properties has decreased from almost 12 percent in 2008 to 6 percent in 2011.

Market analysts, however, insist that elite real estate prices won’t go down noticeably.

“If people have financial resources than there is always a reason to buy elite real estate in Kyiv,” said. Melnykova. “As the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv comes with prestigious status, and this won’t change any time soon.”
