Major enterprises in eastern Ukraine face not only financial losses due to damage to railroad infrastructure in the region, but also the threat of closure, head of Ukrzaliznytsia Rail Transport Administration's analytical and operation department Mykola Topchiev said in Kyiv on Aug. 1.

This threat could affect such enterprises as Azovstal metallurgical
plant, Yenakiyeve Iron and Steel Works, Alchevsk Iron and Steel Works,
Donetsk metallurgical plant, Donetsk metal-rolling plant, Avdiyivka
coking and chemical plant, Stirol concern, and Severodonetsk Azot
association, Topchiev said.

“These enterprises are cut off from raw material supplies from other regions of Ukraine,” Topchiev said.

It has been reported citing Topchiev that the Ukrainian railroad
sector might fall short of about UAH 3 billion in 2014if the situation
in eastern Ukraine does not stabilize.
