MOSCOW - OJSC Megafon, the second largest cellular provider in Russia in terms of total subscribers, had formed a subsidiary in Ukraine, the company told Interfax.

LLC MF Telecom was founded in November 2011 in Kyiv, Megafon said in its materials.

MF Telecom has been formed for operations on the traffic transit market.

A Megafon spokesperson told Interfax: "We opened the company MF Telecom for expanding and strengthening the provider business, which we are developing with our international partners."

The creation of MF Telecom is not connected to cellular operations and work with subscribers, Megafon said.

The company declined to provider further commentary.

Megafon provides cellular and fixed-line services in Russia, as well as Tajikistan, Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

The Russian company owns cellular operators TT-Mobile, Aquafon GSM and Ostelecom in these countries.

Megafon acquired fixed-line provider Sinterra in 2010, which owns one of the most extensive communications networks in Russia.
