Ukraine has valued its gas transport system at $20 billion, Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller said during a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on Friday.

Putin had asked Miller how Russia’s Ukrainian partners assessed the value of their gas transport system.

"The stated amount is significant – our Ukrainian friends named the value of the Ukrainian gas transport system at $20 billion," Miller said.

Significant funds still need to be brought in to modernize Ukraine’s gas transport system, he said.

"Right now we can only talk about a certain ‘bracket’ estimation of how much money is required to modernize Ukraine’s gas transport system – numbers between 2-3 billion euro and 7-8 billion euro can be named," Miller said.
