Novus Ukraine LLC (Kyiv), which is developing the Novus network of supermarkets in Ukraine, plans in 2013 to open eight stores, thereby expanding the network to 28 trade outlets in the country.

“On Friday, the 21st store will open in Hryhorenko Avenue in Kyiv. We want to open eight stores this year. Our strategic objective is Kyiv and Sevastopol,” Novus Ukraine CEO Ihor Landa told Interfax-Ukraine.

According to him, the sales area of a store in Hryhorenko Avenue is 3,700 square meters, its total area is about 5,000 square meters.

Landa added that one store is likely to open in Sevastopol in 2013. Currently there are seven trade outlets of the chain in the city.

“Next stores will be opened before March 8, we will open one or two stores in Kyiv,” he said.

As reported, the EBRD Board of Directors on January 16 approved the issue of a long-term loan of up to $50 million for the development of Ukraine’s Novus retail chain.

The Novus supermarket chain is developed by BT Invest (Lithuania), which was set up in 2008 by former stockholders in Sandora juice producer Raimondos Tumenas and the late Ihor Bezzub.

The first Novus store opened in Ukraine in 2008. The trade chain consists of 20 stores in the form of shopping centers, supermarkets and hypermarkets in Kyiv, Sevastopol, Cherkasy, Ternopil and Rivne. In addition to its core business, the company is engaged in goods imports and distribution in Ukraine.
