The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine (PGO) has sent a request to Germany for the extradition of former member of the Supervisory Board of PJSC Brokbusinessbank, Borys Tymonkin, who was detained in the German town of Cottbus on June 14, 2015, the PGO's press service reported.

According to Deputy Prosecutor General Vitaliy Kasko, Tymonkin, along with businessman Serhiy Kurchenko, is suspected of having committed a number of grave crimes.

“Under the European Convention on Extradition, Germany and Ukraine are obliged to give over to each other all those persecuted by law enforcement agencies for criminal offenses,” the PGO said.

If Tymonkin and Kurchenko are found guilty, they face up to 15 years in jail with the confiscation of their property, the PGO said.

“Tymonkin and Kurchenko are suspected of involvement in a criminal organization, misappropriation of assets of the PJSC Brokbusinessbank, joint-stock bank Ukrgasbank and the PJSC Agrarian Fund on a large scale of a total of $4.7 billion, the legalization of criminal proceeds, and forgery,” Kasko said.
