The Security Service of Ukraine is checking if some Parliament members were involved in the embezzlement of Kyiv-based Rodovid Bank's funds, Chief of the Security Service of Ukraine Valeriy Khoroshkovsky said at a press conference on Friday.

Khoroshkovsky noted that they conducted an investigation into a criminal case against the former temporary administrator of the bank, Serhiy Scherbina, on the embezzlement of bank funds worth several million hryvnias.

"As of today, Scherbina is in custody and waiting for this case to be transferred to court. He is a rather influential official at the bank, but we don’t consider him the tip of the iceberg. We believe and know that there were other persons, including Parliament members, who influenced the decisions taken by him," Khoroshkovsky said.

According to him, at presentthe SBU is investigating the involvement of a number of Parliament members in the embezzlement at the bank.

"Following results of these checks we will call on the Prosecutor General’s Office to take away the deputy immunity of some MPs," he said.

In May, the former temporary administrator at Rodovid Bank, Serhiy Scherbina, was detained as part of the investigation into a criminal case on large-scale embezzlement.
