You're reading: Survey: Consumer confidence in Ukraine in September decreases

The September consumer confidence index (CCI) was 81.8, which is 4.8 points lower than in August, reads a monthly survey of GfK Ukraine.

“The deterioration was caused by all the index components, apart from
the Index of Propensity to Consume,” reads a company press release.

The company said that expectations regarding changes in unemployment
increased in September: the respective index is 127.4 which 5.7 points
higher than in August.

Moreover, negative dynamics in inflationary expectations were
observed: index value increased by 3 points to 185.2. The index of
devaluation expectations of Ukrainians grew by 7.3 points to 142.1,
reads the report.

Economic Expectations of the population fell by 8.1 points to 82.6.

“Fluctuations in the dollar exchange rate in early autumn were likely
to be the main factor behind the deterioration in consumer confidence.
Devaluation expectations index increased by 7 points, which was record
growth since May and which influenced the inflationary expectations
index. As a result, the index of expected economic conditions for the
next year showed a large decrease, which again was the lowest of all
components of Consumer Confidence Index,” reads the report.

The consumer confidence index in Ukraine is based on a selective
survey of households in the country. One thousand people aged 15 to 59
years are polled during the study.
