You're reading: Ukraine and Russia to build a $150,000 agricultural plane

The state enterprise of the Defense Ministry of Ukraine "Odesa Aviation Repair Enterprise Odesaaviaremservis and the limited liability company MVEN have developed and built Fermer-2D [Farmer-2D] agricultural plane.

The agricultural plane was presented in Odesa on June 11.

The plane is equipped with SR-305-230 engine, which is a diesel 4-cylinder boxer engine of direct injection with capacity of 230 horsepower.

The ag plane operates on kerosene, fuel consumption for the treatment of 1 hectare with chemicals is 0.11 liter, hourly consumption of fuel is 35 liters, the cost of processing of 1 hectare is Hr 20.

The aircraft and its chemicals spraying system are designed for spraying under the technology of ultra low volume spray with a norm being between 2 and 10 liters/hectare.

Agrarian Policy Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk attended the presentation of the aircraft.

He said the development of agricultural aviation was a priority.

"The aviation for the agriculture, especially in our climate, is indispensable. This year[‘s weather] is a bright example. The fields were saturated by moisture. If we had aviation, we could close all of the questions," said the minister.

He added that the State cannot finance such projects in full, but it ready to provide support to the projects.

A representative of Odesaaviaremservis told Ukrainian News that the said plane possesses high production capacity and requires no special runways. The plane can take 300 liters of chemicals.

According to the representative of the enterprise, Russian specialists designed the board of the plane, while solutions from Ukrainian specialists allowed making the exploitation of the plane cheaper, as the replacement of the gasoline engine by the diesel engine will cut the exploitation expenses by 40%.

The plane was assembled in Odesa.

The ag plane is equipped with a fast-acting parachute system, which in an emergency will save not only a pilot, but also the plane.

The representative said the demand for the Ukrainian farming sector is estimated at 320 planes. Given appropriate funding is allocated, Odesaaviaremservis can make them within nine years.

The cost of the plane is $ 150,000.

According to the representative, the treatment of field with the help of Fermer-2D will increase the crop capacity by 30%.
