Ukrainian mining enterprises in 2014 cut production of pellets, by 9% from 2013, to 21.915 million tonnes, while sinter cake output fell by 12%, to 38.331 million tonnes.

Production of iron ore concentrate decreased by 2%, to 67.874 million tonnes, while iron ore output also slid by 2%, to 82.129 million tonnes in 2014, the Metallurgprom association of metal companies of Ukraine (Dnipropetrovsk) has told Interfax-Ukraine.

Major producers’ metalware output decreased by 12%, to 200,000 tonnes, while scrap metal supplies to Ukrainian enterprises declined by 24%, to 3.370 million tonnes.

In December 2014, mining enterprises produced 1.676 million tonnes of pellets (1.717 million tonnes in November 2014), 4.493 million tonnes of sinter cake (4.457 million tonnes), 4.943 million tonnes of iron ore concentrate (5.748 million tonnes), and 6.157 million tonnes of iron ore (6.971 million tonnes). Metalware output in December 2014 was 13,000 tonnes (13,000 tonnes), scrap metal supplies totaled 297,000 tonnes (269,000 tonnes).

As was reported, Ukrainian metal companies cut steel production by 17% in 2014 compared to 2013, to 27.161 million tonnes. Rolled steel output dropped by 18% last year, to 23.793 million tonnes and cast iron production was down by 15%, to 24.81 million tonnes. Pipe output declined by 14%, to 1.396 million tonnes and that of coke by 21%, to 13.824 million tonnes. In December 2014 alone, Ukrainian smelters produced 1.921 million tonnes of steel, 1.663 million tonnes of rolled steel, 1.774 million tonnes of cast iron, 94,000 tonnes of pipes and 890,000 tonnes of coke.

In 2013, Ukraine saw a 1% increase in steel production compared to 2012, which stood at 32.684 million tonnes, while overall production of rolled steel remained roughly at the level of the previous year, keeping at 29.038 million tonnes, while pig iron output climbed by 2%, to 29.111 million tonnes.
