The Ukrainian Infrastructure Ministry has approved a new classification of passenger trains, depending on the comfort and servicing level, reads a ministry report issued last week.

The report says that order No. 586 singed by Vice Premier and Infrastructure Minister Borys Kolesnikov on December 1, 2011, has been registered in the Justice Ministry.

According to the order, the Intercity+ (IC+) category has been introduced – this is a day fast direct train going with the speed of 90 kilometers per hour and more with the allowable speed up to 200 kilometers per hour. The train has cars with first and second class seats.

The Intercity (IC) category differs by the smaller speed – 80-160 kilometers per hour and the possibility to have third class cars.

Regional express trains (RE) have the smaller speed – 70-140 kilometers per hour, which could include first class cars along with second and third class cars with seats.

Usual Regional train (R) is a day fast train going with the speed of 50-140 kilometers per hour and having second and third class cars.

Apart from day trains, the classification includes night trains: Night Express (NE) – 70-200 kilometers per hour with RIC, luxury and sleeping cars, Night Fast (NF) – 50-140 kilometers per hour with luxury, sleeping and third class sleeping cars and Night Passenger (NP) – up to 50 kilometers per hour with the allowable speed of up to 140 kilometers per hour with sleeping and third class sleeping cars and could have luxury cars.

Finally, the classification includes Suburban train (S) and City train (C).

Each type of the trains will have their own symbol and typical decoration, reads the report.

Those cars that will be included in the train will have icons in certain spots to indentify the type of the train, category of the cars and services provided by passengers.

Icons will define seats and classes of the cars; sleeping seats and category of the car; seats for passengers with children; no smoking; restaurant car; bar car’ air conditioning; a car with space for bicycles; a car with a compartment for disabled people and a car with WiFi services.

The report does not offer information on the cost of the tickets depending on the category of the train.
