Ukraine in August 2014 saw a 37 percent decline in steel output year-over-year, to 1.767 million tonnes, falling from the tenth to the 11th position in the rating compiled by the World Steel Association (Worldsteel) of the 65 main steel producing nations.

A rise in steel production in August 2014 was recorded in most countries of the top ten, apart from Germany, Brazil and Taiwan being tenth in the rating.

The top ten steelmakers as of the end of August 2014 was the following: China (68.91 million tonnes, 1 percent up), Japan (9.349 million tonnes, 2.2 percent up), the United States (7.682 million, 2.9 percent up), India (7.027 million tonnes, 5.2 percent up), Russia (6.169 million tonnes, 5.8 percent up), South Korea (5.285 million tonnes, 8 percent up), Germany (3.133 million tonnes, a decline of 1 percent), Brazil (2.946 million tonnes, 1.4 percent down), Turkey (2.902 million tonnes, 13.9 percent rise), and Taiwan (1.94 million tonnes, 1.8 percent down).

The major steel producing nations (65 countries) in August 2014 smelted 134.956 million tonnes of steel, which was 1.4 percent up year-over-year.
