You're reading: Ukrainian government could approve updated energy strategy until 2030 in May

The Ukrainian cabinet in May 2011 could amend the country's energy strategy for the period until 2030 with regard to energy development.

The terms are mentioned in the national plan of action for 2011 on the introduction of a program of economic reforms running until 2014 approved by a presidential decree on April 27, 2011.

The Energy and Coal Industry Ministry is to draw up a draft cabinet resolution on amendments to the energy strategy running until 2030 and submit it to the cabinet by May 2011.

Earlier Ukraine announced plans to amend the energy strategy running until 2030 with regard to the reduction of plans to build nuclear power plant reactors. It was expected that the updated strategy would be presented only in August 2011.

The present energy strategy running until 2030 foresees boosting the generating capacity of the nuclear power plants in the country from 13.835 GW to 29.5 GW and increasing the share of coal consumption in the country’s energy generating sphere.
