Ukraine in the 2011/12 agricultural year (September-August) tentatively exported 160,000 tonnes of sugar, which is a record for the country in recent years, First Deputy Director General of the Ukrtsukor Association Petro Borysiuk has said.

“Sugar exports in the past season came to at least 160,000 tonnes,
while in the 2010/11 agricultural year it was only 6,000 tonnes,” he
told Interfax-Ukraine.

Borysiuk said that Ukraine exported sugar to 21 countries, and the largest amount of sugar was exported to Kazakhstan.

The price situation on the global markets promoted the stirring up of foreign supplies of Ukrainian sugar, the expert said.

As reported, Ukraine produced 2.33 million tonnes of sugar from beet
of the 2011 harvest, compared to 1.54 million the year before.

The capacity of the Ukrainian sugar market is evaluated at 1.8-1.9 million tonnes per year.
