You're reading: Ukrzaliznytsia to allocate Hr 2.6 billion to prepare tracks for autumn-winter period

The State Railway Administration of Ukraine (Ukrzaliznytsia) has allocated over Hr 2.6 billion for a range of measures linked to the provision of normal operation of railway tracks in the autumn-winter period, the press service of Ukrzaliznytsia has reported.

The press service said that work on preparing tracks for normal and stable functioning in the autumn-winter period are being performed in line with the schedule. As of September 10, 2012, 106 out of 107 snow-clearing machines and 127 out of 135 snow-removal machines had been prepared. There is no shortage of snow-removal machinery today, reads the report.

The key directions of preparation are ensuring safety, the operation of points in icy conditions and monitoring the quality of tracks and rails.

Ukrzaliznytsia’s specialists are preparing 14,330 sets of points with air-blowers and 2,311 points with electric heating. Special attention is paid to ensuring the stable operation of alarm and communications systems.

The setting up of heating centers, showers, and premises for drying clothes will ensure there are proper conditions for the work of railway workers.

In winter additional safety measures will be taken, and additional checks of tracks, points and engineering installations will be carried out.
