Ukraine as of September 22, 2012 accumulated 19.1 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas in its underground storage facilities, the press services of Ukrtransgaz, a subsidiary of national joint-stock company Naftogaz Ukrainy, and state-run enterprise Chornomornaftogaz reported on September 25, 2012.
Ukrtransgaz accumulated 18.3 bcm of gas and Chornomornaftogaz – 800 million cubic meters of gas.
As a part of preparations for the autumn and winter period of 2012-2013 Ukrtransgaz pumped 11.4 bcm of gas to underground storage facilities and Chornomornaftogaz pumped 300 million cubic meters.
Ukrtransgaz also said that as a part of preparations for the winter period the company checked and overhauled backbone pipelines, gas pumpers, wells of underground storage facilities and reconstructed fire systems and wire.
As reported, Ukraine has confirmed it will be pumping 13.135 bcm of natural gas into underground storage, including 4.887 bcm in the second quarter, 7.602 bcm in the third, and 0.646 bcm in the fourth.
Ukraine has 13 underground storage facilities with an active capacity surpassing 31 bcm of gas. Ukrtransgaz operates 12 of those facilities, and Chornomornaftogaz (Crimea) operates one.
Naftogaz Ukrainy unites the leading oil and gas enterprises in Ukraine. The company has a monopoly on the transit and underground storage of gas. The company is engaged in oil transportation via pipelines throughout Ukraine.
