You're reading: EU concerned about fate of Ukrainian pilot Savchenko

The European Union on July 17 expressed its concern about the imprisonment of Ukrainian military pilots Nadia Savchenko in Russia.

“This raises questions about the respect by the Russian Federation of its international obligations. We call on the Russian Federation to abide by its obligations as a Member State of the Council of Europe and party of the European Convention on Human Rights,” reads a statement released by a spokesperson of the European External Action Service in Brussels on July 17.

The document welcomes the fact that Ukraine’s consul in Russia was finally allowed to meet with Savchenko.
