You're reading: European Commission: Association Agreement with Ukraine won’t be altered

Brussels - The European Commission has stressed that the Association Agreement with Ukraine won't change in the light of agreements reached between European Commissioner for Trade Karel De Gucht, Russian Economic Development Minister Alexei Ulyukayev and Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin on Sept. 12.

We don’t cast doubt on the integrity of the Association Agreement, European Commission Spokesperson Pia Ahrenkilde Hansen said at a briefing in Brussels on Sept. 15.

She said that the agreement achieved would give the parties additional time to better implement the Association Agreement, primarily the part concerning trade.

However, the EC spokesperson stressed that the decision to put off implementation of the Association Agreement’s FTA section isn’t part of the agreements reached on the ceasefire in the east of Ukraine.

Policy Coordinator at DG Trade at European Commission Wojtek Talko said that a decision of the Council of the EU and European Parliament was needed to prolong the effect of unilateral trade preferences for Ukraine.
