You're reading: Fule satisfied with EU-Ukraine summit

The EU-Ukraine Summit in general was successful, European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule said in an interview with an Interfax-Ukraine reporter.

“In general, it was a successful summit, which at a very important moment emphasized the sides’ obligation to sign the Association Agreement, including the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area,” Fule said.

He said that during the summit the sides “clearly said that the signing and introduction of the Association Agreement would be a revolutionary step in relations between Ukraine and the EU, as both of them will benefit from it.”

“Changing this part of Europe will be a very specific step. There is no doubt about importance of the Association Agreement, it is an unprecedented agreement due to its political content, which offers Ukraine a way to become a part of the EU’s internal market and achieve harmonization with most EU legislation, and this is one specific step towards the realization of Ukraine’s European aspirations,” he said.

At the same time, Fule noted that Ukraine “has to use this window of opportunity in order to perform its tasks in the three areas outlined by the EU Member States in December in the conclusions of the Council of the EU.”
