Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko during a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel discussed the issue of support from the international community for the settlement of the situation in the Donbas ahead of a European Council meeting on July 16, the presidential press service has reported.

“Angela Merkel said that Ukraine was now among her priority issues
and assured that at a European Council meeting tomorrow Ukraine will
receive strong support from the EU,” the press service reported late on
Tuesday.

According to the report, the sides also discussed the issues of
speeding up the activity of the OSCE mission on the border for its
effective monitoring.

Poroshenko briefed Merkel about the further flow of weapons and militants through the Ukrainian-Russian border.

“Poroshenko informed the German chancellor about two attempts to hold
a meeting of the trilateral contact group in the format of a video
conference. The sides discussed the possibility of continuing the
negotiations in the Normandy format,” reads the statement.
