Berlin - German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier has reported "some progress on certain points" made at the Ukrainian crisis talks in Berlin.

The minister said the quadripartite negotiations pondered a possibility of the crisis resolution step by step.

He added that the talks’ results would be conveyed to the chiefs of state.

According to Steinmeier, they would “possibly decide on Monday (Aug. 18) or Tuesday (Aug. 19) in which form we can resume today’s discussion.”

Steinmeier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin met at the German Foreign Ministry’s Academy. They negotiated for five hours into Aug. 18 morning, Moscow time.

A meeting of the similar format was held in Berlin 1.5 months ago. Back then the foreign ministers of Russia, Germany, France and Ukraine adopted a declaration, which called for the soonest establishment of a contact group to coordinate Ukrainian truce conditions. The contact group was supposed to comprise Russia, Ukraine and the OSCE. The ultimate settlement has yet to be achieved but Russia’s Western partners have admitted that Kyiv is deviating from the terms of the agreements reached at the multilateral meeting.
