You're reading: Tombinski optimistic about signing of EU-Ukraine Association Agreement in Vilnius

Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Jan Tombinski says he sees goods prospects for the signing of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union during the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius in November 2013.

“Today we have 10 weeks left to the Vilnius summit, and I can say that today I am more optimistic about the prospects for this summit,” he said at the annual Ukrainian National Platform conference in Kyiv on Monday.

Tombinski noted that this process includes two components – the government’s work on the fulfillment of the tasks outlined by the European side earlier, and the political issues mentioned in the December conclusions of the Committee of Ministers.

According to the diplomat, the sides are working on these two components today. In this context, Tombinski expressed hope that the Ukrainian parliament will pass the laws necessary for Ukraine’s European integration course during the session this fall.

In addition, he stressed the importance of the creation of proper business climate in the country and noted that the EU takes special interest in this issue in the light of the upcoming signing of the Association Agreement.
