The United Kingdom is disappointed at Ukraine's decision to put off the signature of EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, UK Foreign Secretary William Hague has said.

“This is a missed opportunity,” Hague said in a statement posted on the Web site of the Foreign Office.

“The UK remains committed to Ukraine’s European future, to a closer relationship with Ukraine, and to signature of the Association Agreement.”

The agreement presents the best opportunity for Ukraine to modernize and transform its institutions and economy, and build a more prosperous and stable future for the Ukrainian people, the foreign secretary said.

“The door remains open and signature is in Ukraine’s hands,” he said.

According to the foreign secretary, the association agreements with the countries of the Eastern Partnership are good for the EU, good for the Eastern Partnership, and good for the wider region.

“I look forward to the initialing of the EU-Georgia and EU-Moldova Association Agreements, including Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Areas, at the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius on November 28-29,” Hague said.
