Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko informed German Chancellor Angela Merkel of the alarming situation in Ukraine's southeastern regions during a telephone conversation on Thursday evening.

Poroshenko told the German leader about the concentration of militants in Donetsk and Luhansk, and an increase in heavy weapons supplies from the Russian border.

“The international experts investigating the circumstances of Flight MH17 crash were forced to halt the inquiry today due to persistent threats to their security,” the Ukrainian president said.

At the same time, the international experts “highly assessed the efforts made by the Ukrainian side, which helped them carry out the investigation,” he said.

The Ukrainian and German leaders also agreed to further coordinate their efforts as part of multilateral negotiations aimed at implementing a peace plan for southeastern Ukraine and responding to security threats in Europe.
