The holding of the Euro 2012 European Football Championship in Ukraine is a test for the country regarding its compliance with European standards of hospitality, organization, development of infrastructure and the provision of a safe and comfortable environment for participants and fans, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Andriy Kliuyev has said.

He said that preparations for the safe holding of Euro 2012 were reaching their final stage.

"Ukraine is currently one of the most peaceful countries in the world. At the same time, we understand that in today’s globalized world no country can completely isolate itself from other countries, and accordingly from certain threats. We are aware of the seriousness of even hardly probable external challenges that require the permanent strengthening of security measures from us," Kliuyev said, while commenting on the results of holding comprehensive interagency exercises, which took place on the basis of the 40th tactical aviation brigade of the Ukrainian Air Force in Vasylkiv (Kyiv region).

According to the council’s press service, Kliuyev stressed the importance of the fact that employees of domestic law enforcement agencies should constantly work, preparing for the beginning of the Euro 2012 finals. He also said that Ukraine would be fully prepared for Euro 2012, not only in the aspect of security, but as a whole.
