The fires on the barricade in Independence Square in central Kyiv have been put out; utility teams have removed barricades and tents from fairly large parts of the area adjacent to the square.
When the fire had already started to die down, firefighters accessed the barricades from the side of the Central Department Store in Khreschatyk Street and from European Square and started putting out the remainder of the blaze, an Interfax correspondent said.
There is no sign of either utility workers or police in Maidan near European Square and the Liadski Gate. At the same time, both utility workers and law enforcement officers can be seen standing outside the Central Department Store.
The tent camp and protestors are now taking up a significantly smaller area.
There are no more barricades, nor tents between the corner of Prorezna Street and the Central Post Office in Khreschatyk Street. The road between European Square and the Trade Unions Building, where Khreschatyk was partitioned with concrete blocks, has also been cleared; however, piles of rubbish are still lying on this part of the road.
The road within Maidan proper, between the Trade Unions Building and the Liadski Gate, has been cleared. However, during a standoff, protestors tried to erect yet another barricade there, which is still on the road, as are several piles of rubbish.
Utility teams did not touch anything in the center of Maidan and in Instytutska Street; all sections of the tent camp are still there as usual.
