You're reading: Government approves plans of measures to cut gas consumption by 2017

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a plan of measures to cut gas consumption by 2017, the government's press service has reported. 

The press service said that the decision was made at a cabinet meeting on Oct. 16.

The document foresees the allocation of funds for partial compensation of purchases of energy-saving and energy efficient equipment by households and businessmen in 2015.

The plan also includes measures to stimulate production of bio-methane, increase the energy efficiency of buildings, the switch of heat supply facilities using alternative energy to the stimulating tariff formation.

According to the document, the land allocation procedures should be relaxed for alternative energy facilities and they should obtain the right to sign long-term agreements in the heat supply area.

“According to assessments of specialists, the introduction of a set of measures will allow reaching the point of energy independence for Ukraine in 2018 in part of gas supplies to the municipal and budget-funded sectors,” the press service said.
