Brussels - The signature of a European Commission representative on the trilateral gas protocol will guarantee its fulfillment by the parties, Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Yuriy Prodan said.

“We have signed the first-ever binding trilateral protocol and we are confident that the European Commission’s signature on this protocol will guarantee its fulfillment,” he said at the end of productive gas talks held with the European Commission’s participation in Brussels in the early hours of Oct. 31.

“Being a member of the Energy Community, Ukraine has reaffirmed its inclination to enforce European laws and reach compromises and we are sure that the fall-and-winter season will proceed normally,” the minister added.

The agreements will ensure the energy security of Ukraine and uninterrupted gas transit to EU countries, he said. However, a final solution to the dispute between Naftogaz and Gazprom will be found at the Stockholm arbitration court.

“We have arrived at intermediate decisions, temporary solutions which will be in effect until the ultimate settlement of our gas dispute with Russia at the Stockholm arbitration court,” Prodan stated.
