The leadership of the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) has cancelled a decision to close criminal proceedings against the former leaders of Naftogaz Ukrainy, headed by Yevhen Bakulin.
The Prosecutor General’s Office noted that under a motion from the Ukrainian Interior Ministry a PGO prosecutor who led criminal proceedings against the company’s former officials headed by Bakulin had closed the case under Part 3, Article 284 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
‘On the same day, after the leadership of the Prosecutor General’s Office received information, the decision to close criminal proceedings has been cancelled by Ukrainian Deputy Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin,’ reads the report.
It was reported earlier that Bakulin, who had headed Naftogaz from March 2010, was detained on March 21, 2014 on suspicion of massive embezzlement.
A court ruled on March 23 that Bakulin be arrested or granted bail in an amount of 1.5 billion Hr.
On March 28, Kyiv’s Court of Appeal left Bakulin in custody. The defense team intended to file a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights regarding ‘his illegal detention and use of torture against him.’
On April 25, Kyiv’s Pechersky District Court released Bakulin on 10 million bail Hr.
