Polevskoy, Russia - The chairman of TMK's board of directors, Dmitry Pumpyansky, has asked Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev to take note of the necessity of safeguarding the Russian market against the dumping of Ukrainian pipes.

Pumpyansky made this request during Medvedev’s visit to OJSC Seversky Tube Works on Friday.

“There is a problem with shipments from Ukraine. The Economic Development Ministry’s list does not include pipes,” he told Medvedev.

Russian metallurgists would like to receive government support, Pumpyansky said, adding that pipes shipped to Russia from Ukraine are of a lower quality than their Russian counterparts.

He said that one of Russian metallurgists’ main competitors was currently Chinese manufacturers.

TMK is ready to provide a solution to problems with phasing out of imports, Pumpyansky said, adding that the company was ready to provide pipe supplies for drilling on the shelf, deep-sea drilling, and for the development of shale gas fields.

During his visit to Seversky Tube Works, Medvedev was shown the production line of the pipe and tube mill, and became familiarized with prospective equipment being implemented at both Seversky Tube Works and TMK as a whole.
