You're reading: Opponents of language law storming Kharkiv City Council

Kharkiv - Opponents of Ukraine's law on the principles of the state language policy, which extends the use of the Russian language, are trying to break into the building of the City Council in Kharkiv. 

The police are not letting them in, a scuffle has started in front of the building, an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent.

Protesters are chanting “Gang, get out!”.

Around 100 people are participating in the rally, including representatives of the Batkivschyna Party and the Svoboda All-Ukrainian Union.

At 1200, on Monday, Kharkiv City Council is to hold a special plenary session, which will address 18 issues, including one on the implementation of the law on the principles of the state language policy in the city.
