You're reading: Parliament rejects Lytvyn’s amendments to language bill

The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, has refused to amend the bill on principles of state language policy according to proposals of Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn.

First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Adam Martyniuk proposed
that MPs vote for amendments to Article 131 of the language bill
submitted by Lytvyn.

Only 21 of the 272 MPs registered in the sitting hall voted for the amendments.

Martyniuk did not brief the MPs on the main point of the amendments.
Lytvyn’s proposals also were never published on the Web site of
parliament.
