You're reading: Sevastopol makes Russian a regional language

SEVASTOPOL – Sevastopol City Council has declared Russian language a regional language in the city at a special sitting on Thursday, Aug. 15.

Fifty-four deputies unanimously voted for the decision.

As reported, earlier Odesa City Council and Odesa Regional Council assigned Russian language with the regional status.

The Crimean parliament instructed the Crimean government to draft and
submit for approval amendments to the law of Ukraine on the principles
of the state language policy by October 10, 2012.

Krasny Luch Town Council in Luhansk region has also declared Russian a regional language.

Deputies of Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk regional councils and Kharkiv City Council are to consider the issue soon.
