NEW YORK (AP) — More than three decades have passed since Bob Dylan brought the plight of boxer Rubin "Hurricane" Carter into the public consciousness.
Carter was freed after 19 years in prison when a federal judge found he was wrongfully convicted.
Now, academics from around the U.S. will examine "Hurricane" and similar songs during a Manhattan conference called "Bob Dylan and the Law."
There’ll be a public session on Apr. 4 night, followed by an academic session on Apr. 5.
One of the organizers, Fordham University law professor Bruce Green, has been a Dylan fan since high school. His parents, who were Sinatra fans, "couldn’t stand it."
Green jokes that he feels "vindicated." He says that all along, he was merely "setting the stage for future scholarship."
