Russian national band Lakmus playing at Dynamo Lux; local artist Mykhailo Khymych exhibiting at ARTEast gallery; Ukrainian violin player Asia Akhat performing at Ukraina Palace

' have become hugely popular, but only recently have Moscow's producers taken notice of Lakmus.
The four-member band originally started in Novosibirsk.
Maksim Andryushenko and Stas Shuster attended school together and played guitar after class. A third member, Misha Zaichikov, was a physical training teacher at the same school. When they finally decided to form a band and record a couple of songs in the studio, they met Ira Akimtseva. The three men decided that Ira's voice would be a perfect match for their band, and she was invited to beome their vocalist.
Between concerts and studio recording, the members of Lakmus like to sit in a bar and watch Formula 1 races. That's their common hobby and maybe that's what keeps them together.

Khymych at ARTEast gallery

Although he is well-known for his poignant graphics and colorful ceramics, Mykhailo Khymych will focus his next exhibition on his icons that were developed by fusing a 'mixed-technique' of enamel, wood, glass, and ceramics with oils.
Khymych's icons are breathtaking and diverse. He is a master of taking an ancient form of art and make it look contemporary. Khymych skillfully uses techniques of enamels, oils, woods and combines these mediums into a traditional form. His icons are exceptional and worthy of every place of artistic and cultural importance.
In 1999, Mykhailo Khymych received the prestigious 'First Award by Mykhailo Deregus,' a prominent 20th-century Ukrainian artist and cultural leader. Mykhailo Khymych has had many successful exhibitions in Ukraine. His icons are also found in private collections in Washington and New York.
Presently, Khymych is an instructor at the Children's Academy of Art in Kyiv-Pecherska Lavra.

Violin player Asia Akhat makes debut.

Ukrainian violin player Asia Akhat will highlight the concert 'A Tribute to the Violin' at Ukraina Palace on June 26. Akhat is often compared to famous American pop violinist Vanessa Mei. Like Mei, Akhat's rendition of the classics is closer to rock, and her stage costumes would be the envy of any pop star. Akhat's video clips feature a range of modern computer effects and are often shown on pop music channels.
Akhat now works with young modern composers who write music especially for her. She plays classics, folk and even pop music written for the electric violin. The concert at Ukraina Palace is part of Akhat's national tour called 'Homo ovus.'
