Russian club Spartak Moscow has been charged by UEFA after its fans invaded the pitch at a Champions League match in Slovakia.

Spartak fans also attacked security staff and delayed the game at Zilina last Wednesday by throwing fireworks on the field.

UEFA says the club will answer a charge of improper conduct by supporters at a disciplinary hearing on Thursday. Any sanctions could take effect when Spartak plays in the Europa League in February.

UEFA also charged Zilina for failing to stop the pitch invasion, and with improper conduct by players because five were shown yellow cards during the match.

Spartak won 2-1.
