You're reading: Ukraine to set up monument for famine victims in Washington

The Ukrainian government will finance a project to build a monument in Washington for the victims of the 1932-33 famine in Ukraine, also known as Holodomor, and to build, transport and set up a monument for Ukrainian poet and writer Taras Shevchenko in Astana.

The funding will be provided according to a government resolution passed on July 3 on the budget for supporting Ukraine’s positive international image and on maintaining ties with Ukrainians living abroad.

Funding will also be made available to maintain ties with foreign media, to publish materials supporting Ukraine’s positive image abroad, and to organize forums, conferences, roundtables and press conferences in order to inform the public abroad about Ukraine’s priorities in its foreign policy endeavors.
