New York's highest building – the Empire State Building - will be illuminated on Wednesday with the colors of Ukraine's state flag in honor of Ukrainian Olympians, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Oleksandr Dykusarov has said.
“On the evening of Aug. 1, residents and visitors of New York will
be able to see the southern part of the Empire State Building
illuminated with the yellow and blue of the state flag of Ukraine in
honor of the Ukrainian Olympic team,” he said at a briefing in Kyiv on
Wednesday.
Dykusarov said that according to Ukraine’s consulate general in New
York, within 17 days of the current Olympic Games the Empire State
Building will be alternately illuminated with the colors the state flags
of the countries whose representatives are participating in these
competitions.
He noted that the Empire State Building, which has a height of 443 meters and 102 stories, was built in 1931-1932.
Ukraine’s Olympic team currently has two gold and two bronze medals.
