You're reading: Poroshenko: Powerful coalition of democratic forces should be formed in new Verkhovna Rada

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has said that it is important to immediately form a powerful coalition of democratic forces in the future parliament in order to hold parliamentary elections on Oct. 26 fairly and transparently.

In the interview with the Ukrainian TV channels on Oct. 18, the head of the state said that he had set a task for his political force (Block of Petro Poroshenko) to elaborate a draft coalition agreement in which clear principles and criteria must be defined.

“If we form a coalition of political forces based on European integration, Strategy 2020, rapid and efficient introduction of judicial reform, struggle against corruption, introduction of favorable investment climate – those things without which Ukraine will not survive, let’s build a team jointly,” the head of the state said.

At the same time, the President noted that he would not allow the creation of coalition for the distribution of posts as it was in the past.

Petro Poroshenko assured that after the elections, consultations on coalition would be short given the necessity of formation of the new Government that would face new important tasks.

“There is an agreement that the IMF will arrive to Kyiv in the middle of November in case the new government is appointed. Not later than by the middle of December, we will have received the decision of the IMF Board on the new program of funding,” Poroshenko said.

According to the president, Ukraine has an extremely busy schedule of implementation of the Association Agreement.

“The new Government must also demonstrate progress in the fulfillment of the plan on the introduction of visa-free regime with the EU,” the head of state said.
