Next year will be the year of studies of the English language in Ukraine, a program of expanding the possibilities of its studies is under work and its knowledge will be mandatory for some officials, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said.

“So as not to be deaf and dumb in the world today, one has to know the language of global communications – English. And we are now working on a program of true globalization of Ukraine expanding the possibilities of studying it,” he said on June 28 addressing graduates of the National University Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.

“For some of our citizens the knowledge of English will be mandatory, for instance, this will apply to certain categories of government officials, he said.

The president reminded his listeners that in his message to Verkhovna Rada he said that he plans to declare 2016 the year of studies of English.

“I am sure that this is a correct decision,” Poroshenko said.
