President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that Ukrainian delegation has fulfilled its tasks set for Milan.

“Ukraine arrived there with a very important mission – we have had to preserve peace. In no way could we allow reconsideration of Minsk agreements. We had to ensure sustainable peace process,” the President said in an interview with Ukrainian TV channels on Oct. 18.

The head of the state said that all the participants of consultations stressed that our Peace plan, Minsk documents, including both Protocol and Memorandum are basic.

Poroshenko informed that all the participants of negotiations emphasized the importance of implementing all the provisions of the Peace plan including holding of local elections in certain districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the Ukrainian legislation.

“So-called fake elections of Nov. 2 or any other day will not and cannot be recognized by any participant of consultations unless they are held under the Ukrainian legislation, with adherence to the ceasefire regime and presence of international observers,” he stressed.

The President noted that European leaders had demonstrated full support of Ukraine.

“As for today, there is a clear and firm position that the abolishment of sanctions will not be discussed without a real progress, constant peace and fulfillment of all the provisions of Minsk memorandum. The EU demonstrated unity and solidarity with Ukraine,” he said.

Besides, the president said that it is impossible to bring peace to Donbas through the military actions.
