Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has called on all those who have illegally taken up arms in the southeastern part of the country to lay them down.

“In response, I guarantee, first, that those on whose hands there is
no blood of Ukrainian warriors and civilians and who are not responsible
for financing terrorism will be exempted from criminal liability,”
Poroshenko said in his inaugural speech at the Verkhovna Rada on
Saturday.

“Second, [I guarantee] a controlled corridor for Russian mercenaries who would want to go back home,” he said.

“I don’t want war and I don’t seek revenge, although great sacrifices
made by the Ukrainian people are standing before my eyes. I am seeking
peace and will secure Ukraine’s unity. Therefore, I am starting my work
with proposing a peace plan,” he said.
