You're reading: UN deputy chiefs for political, humanitarian affairs to visit Kyiv this week

Two high-ranking United Nations officials and the Dutch foreign minister will be visiting Ukraine this week, according to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.

“UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman is planning to visit Ukraine on Aug. 20-22. The visit is part of the UN Secretary-General’s good-offices mission and the arrangements reached during a telephone conversation between Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Ban Ki-moon with regard to the situation in east Ukraine,” Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Yevhen Perebyinis said.

Feltman will be meeting with President Poroshenko, he said.

Also, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Valerie Amos will be in Ukraine on Aug. 21-24, the spokesman said.

“During her visit Valerie Amos is expected to meet with political leaders and visit the eastern regions of our country to study and assess the humanitarian needs,” he added.

Also, Dutch Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans will be in Kyiv on Aug. 21 to meet with his Ukrainian counterpart and the country’s leaders, the Foreign Ministry spokesman said.
