The Ukrainian Defense Ministry has refuted allegations that a Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 may have been shot down in Donetsk region on July 17 in error during a Ukrainian Air Defense exercise and assessed these reports as an attempt to influence the crash inquiry.

“The Ukrainian Air Force did not carry out flights on the day of the Boeing 777 crash. The Ukrainian armed forces anti-aircraft missile systems were not used, and there was not a single launch of anti-aircraft guided missiles,” the ministry said in a statement on Friday.

Some media reported earlier that training by the 156th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment of the Ukrainian armed forces may have caused the Boeing’s crash.

A Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur crashed in the Donetsk region, killing all the 298 people on board.
