You're reading: Batkivschyna agrees to join majority coalition in parliament

The Political Council of the Batkivschyna party has given the go-ahead to the Batkivschyna parliamentary faction's joining the governing coalition in the 8th Verkhovna Rada.

“Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko said that Batkivschyna must become an integral part of the coalition of democratic forces without any preconditions and reservations, and assume responsibility for the situation in Ukraine jointly with the political forces, trusted by the public,” Batkivschyna said in a statement on Nov. 17 evening.

The Political Council discussed Batkivschyna strategy in the new parliament. Tymoshenko said that the party would work to restore the country’s territorial integrity and to enhance its defense capability, pursue a course towards European integration and insist on the annulment of Ukraine’s non-aligned status, which will allow it to join NATO.

The Political Council said that the parliamentary faction must submit a priority bill to the Verkhovna Rada, listing social security measures, as well as measures to fight corruption and oligarchs.
