Ukraine's Central Election Commission has officially denied allegations that votes to be cast in Sunday's parliamentary elections will be counted manually because of an alleged breakdown of the electronic counting system.

“Reports to that effect in part of the media are absolutely untrue. The Vybory [Elections] information and analysis system is operating normally, as it has been,” spokesman Kostiantyn Khivrenko told.

The counting would be done “in the traditional, tested method – by means of the Vybory information and analysis system, – which is what the law prescribes,” he said.

The commission expects the definitive vote counts to be ready no later than midday on Oct. 30, Khivrenko said.

Earlier, media reports had said with reference to Prosecutor General Vitaliy Yarema’s personal Web site that Vybory was out of order and the votes would be counted manually.
