You're reading: Yanukovych: Kyiv hopes for objective assessment of Rada elections

NEW YORK – Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych hopes that the upcoming parliamentary elections will be held in compliance with democratic standards.

“There will be representatives of Finland at the October 28
parliamentary elections,” Yanukovych said at a meeting with President of
Finland Sauli Väinämö Niinistö in New York on Tuesday, Sept. 26.

“We hope that these elections will be fair, open and democratic,” the
Ukrainian president said calling on Finland to be unbiased in their
assessment of the upcoming election.

The two officials discussed issues of bilateral relations. Yanukovych
noted the intensification of trade and economic cooperation between
Ukraine and Finland.

The parliamentary elections in Ukraine are scheduled for October 28.
